The Nurse Practitioner is also a Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist and offers in-office massage as availability allows.
You have the option of choosing one, or a combination of the following massage modalities:
This encompasses a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles. Although the purpose of Swedish massage is to relax the entire body, it also has several other health benefits: Swedish massage has been proven to improve blood circulation, increase the level of oxygen in the blood, help the body to remove toxins, improve flexibility, ease tension and help with pain management.
This massage uses a variety of techniques including, but not limited to, Neuromuscular, Myofascial release and deeper Swedish strokes but focuses on the deeper layers of connective tissue in only 2-3 muscle groups with the goal of immediate improvement in flexibility and pain reduction in those areas. Often combined with assisted therapeutic stretching to prevent fascial adhesions, soft tissue injuries and improve flexibility and mobility.
Neuromuscular Therapy is the utilization of a variety of techniques focused on 1-3 areas of pain and dysfunction. The techniques used are slower while applying pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. These techniques manipulate the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system. NMT massage primarily addresses ischemia (tight tissue with reduced blood flow). Myofascial techniques are used to focus on fascia. Fascia surrounds and protects every muscle, tendon, blood vessel, organ and nerve. When we are injured scar tissue and creates immobility over time which can affect every muscle, tendon, blood vessel, organ and nerve. Releasing the fascia allows for the return of optimal movement and tissue health. No lotion or a special myofascial wax is used for this type of massage with very slow movements and stretching directly into the muscle belly.
Biofield Energy Therapy with Tuning Forks can also be added to your massage upon request and performed in the first 10 minutes of the massage)
Like adjusting a piano, your body can be tuned to achieve optimal physical balance. The healing frequencies of tuning forks will instantaneously alter your body’s biochemistry and bring your nervous system, muscle tone and organs into harmonic balance. In seconds your body enters a deep state of relaxation. Feeling centered, your mind will be at peace. When a tuning fork is struck, you’ll notice how it causes the air around the fork to vibrate, sending out very strong vibrating impulses through the air. Tuning forks have been used for centuries by healers who use them by placing them either on, or near the body part they are intending to heal. They are also used in energetic healing by putting them in the vicinity of the different chakras (energy centers) located along the spine. These energy centers also just happen to be where the nerve centers are found along the spine that send impulses to the different organs, so by energizing these areas, you stimulate the organs into greater health-giving activity and balance.
